As a financial service we are required to ‘know’ our customers. In order to comply with our regulatory obligations we carry out a widely-used check called Know Your Customer (KYC). This check is part of the sign up process and we match your details against a number of public record databases such as the electoral roll. This identity check is not a credit check and does not affect your credit score, although it may show as a trace on your credit history.
If you are opening a Sibstar account just for you, here’s the documentation you will need:
- A photo identity document e.g. your passport or driving licence*
- Proof of address dated in the last 3 months e.g. a bank statement or utility bill
- You’ll need to take a selfie too
If you are opening a Sibstar account for a Cardholder and a Supporter, here’s the documentation you will both need:
- A photo identity document e.g. your passport or driving licence*
- Proof of address dated in the last 3 months e.g. a bank statement or utility bill
- You’ll need to take a selfie too
- Lasting Power of Attorney for Property and Financial Affairs (if you have one in place).
*If you don't have a current passport or driving licence, we can accept, as proof of ID, documents issued by:
- Local authority e.g. council tax statement, electoral register entry, council or housing association rent card, council tenancy agreement for the current year
- Government e.g. a pension statement or a benefits book / letter showing any state benefits you receive such as Housing Benefit, Attendance Allowance, Universal Credit etc
- HMRC e.g. self-assessment letters or tax demand dated within the current financial year
- NHS e.g. your NHS medical card or a registration letter from your GP surgery
Please note we cannot accept a bus pass as proof or identity.
